Introducing Ihana.
Marset’s long-awaited foray into systems. Launching late 2021.
A shining example of the elegance in glasswork Marset is famous for, the simple shapes of the Ihana create a silhouette of light.
Originally created as a custom piece for Joanna Laajisto's new studio in Helinski, 'Ihana' - which means 'exquisite' in Finnish - was born of necessity. "We are located in a late 19th century stone building with very high ceilings in the heart of the city. I wanted something long and sculptural that would not be visually ‘heavy’ in the space where we spend most of the time. The idea of soft blown glass forms with a rigid but thin steel frame fit perfectly."
The modular series is defined by its pure, almost graphic forms, and by the balance between rigidity and fragility. ‘Ihana’ is a synthesis of opposites, combining contrasting colors — the black metallic structure and white diffusers — and shades of old and new. Laajisto explains of the finish, "I always like to use a bit of black, as a contrast, to mark the limits of a space or an object".
“I can think of two ideas about Ihana: it is simultaneously soft and rigid. I like that kind of contradiction”.
